“We, the people of India” are the first words of the Preamble of the Constitution of India. The message of the Constitution makers is loud and clear to all citizens – that only by being united under an able leadership, can we overcome any challenge posed to us as a nation. Today, world powers who used to boast of their modernised governance systems are clueless on how to handle the Covid-19 pandemic, while at the same time, the power of “we the people of India under the able leadership of Shri Narendra Modi” has been observed and acknowledged by the entire world during the corona crisis.
There was a time six years ago, when government’s knock at your doorstep would bring about a sense of fear, panic and cluelessness in the minds of Indians. However, today when the government knocks on your door, people know that it is the government which is there to help, protect and look after you. This transition has taken place only because of the sustained efforts by the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deliver by keeping the nation and its citizens at the centre of gravity. This has restored people’s faith in democratic values and government’s commitment towards their safety and welfare.
Here, it is pertinent to note that over 130 crore people – 16% of the world’s population – have been in lockdown for more than a month on the PM’s call. This could not have been possible without the faith of Indians in this leadership and governance. Further, the fact that “we the people of India” are being closely guided and assisted by the government at different levels irrespective of political and ideological differences, is the most vibrant example of cooperative federalism.
