President Donald Trump has nominated Sergio Gor, his trusted aide and White House personnel director, as the next U.S. Ambassador to India. Praised for his leadership and organizational skills, Gor will also serve as a special envoy for South and Central Asia, aiming to bolster U.S.-India relations amid trade tensions.

In a significant announcement, President Donald Trump has nominated Sergio Gor, his trusted aide and current Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, as the next United States Ambassador to India. This decision reflects Trump’s confidence in Gor’s leadership abilities and longstanding dedication to his administration.
The president took to social media to share the news on Friday, praising the 38-year-old as a "great friend" who has been an integral part of his team for years. "I am pleased to announce that I am promoting Sergio Gor to be our next United States Ambassador to the Republic of India," Trump declared. Alongside this role, Gor will also take on the responsibilities of a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.
This nomination comes against the backdrop of ongoing trade disputes between the United States and India, underscoring the importance of strong diplomatic leadership in navigating these challenges. Trump highlighted Gor's exceptional organizational skills, noting that under his guidance, nearly 4,000 appointments across federal departments were made "in record time," with over 95% of positions now filled.
Until his confirmation, Gor will continue in his current role at the White House. Reflecting on their shared history, Trump commended Gor for his contributions to pivotal moments in his presidency. "Gor has worked on my historic presidential campaigns, published my bestselling books, and managed one of the largest Super PACs supporting our movement," Trump stated, adding that Gor's role has been "essential" in delivering on the administration’s promises.
Trump emphasized the importance of appointing someone he trusts to represent the U.S. in one of the world’s most populous and strategically significant regions. "Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador. Congratulations, Sergio!" the president concluded.
Gor expressed his gratitude in a social media statement, describing the nomination as the greatest honor of his life. "I am beyond grateful to President Trump for his incredible trust and confidence. It will be the honor of my life to represent the United States," he said.
Vice President JD Vance also voiced his support, stating that Gor "will make a fantastic ambassador for our country to India."
Gor is set to succeed Eric Garcetti, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to India from May 2023 until January 2025. With his extensive experience and close ties to the administration, Gor’s appointment signals a continued effort to strengthen U.S.-India relations in the years to come.
This nomination not only highlights Gor’s rise within the political landscape but also sets the stage for a new chapter in the diplomatic partnership between Washington and New Delhi.
