India@75: Tourism & Culture Ministry plans facelift to 75 iconic destinations

Gearing up for the 75th Independence Day celebrations in 2022, The Ministry of Tourism & Culture has decided to equip 75 iconic destinations of India with world-class visitor facilities. The Union Minister of Tourism & Culture (I/C), Prahlad Patel announced this initiative while participating in a virtual exhibition-cum-seminar organised by SATTE GenX. Patel said that these iconic destinations will include historical and heritage monuments of national and international stature. The digital media is leveraged to give 360-degree walkthroughs of all the iconic monuments, when physical visits to these places are restricted. This exercise will be completed soon, he said. Similarly, the Incredible India website and mobile app will be made one-stop-shop for all information that a tourist is looking for, the Minister said. Admitting that the tourism sector, the trade and industry is going through tough times, the Minister said that the government has tried to hold constant consultations with the stakeholders of the sector to find solutions to their problems. The minister underscored the strength of the domestic tourism sector in the country, which has helped the tourism sector hold forte when faced with similar challenges in the past including the 9/11 attack and the 2008 financial meltdown. In order to create awareness about the varied and diverse aspects of India to the domestic market, the ministry has been running campaigns and webinar series under the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ banner, he added.
