In a significant stride toward strengthening bilateral ties, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer convened for a delegation-level discussion in Mumbai on Thursday. The meeting underscored the growing collaboration between the two nations, with a focus on economic progress, shared values, and global stability.

Celebrating Progress in Bilateral Relations

Prime Minister Modi lauded the advancements made in India-UK relations under Prime Minister Starmer's leadership. Reflecting on a pivotal moment earlier this year, PM Modi remarked, “In July, during my visit to the UK, we signed the historic Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).” This landmark agreement is poised to foster economic cooperation by reducing import costs, creating job opportunities, and boosting trade between the two countries.

Highlighting recent business interactions, PM Modi shared details of ongoing efforts to enhance economic ties. He noted the success of the India-UK Business Leaders’ Summit held earlier this week and emphasized the importance of upcoming engagements, including the India-UK CEO Forum and the Global Fintech Festival. These platforms aim to explore new avenues for collaboration and innovation in various sectors.

The Prime Minister expressed optimism about the momentum generated by these initiatives, stating, “Your visit to India, accompanied by the largest-ever business delegation from the UK, is a testament to the renewed energy in our partnership.”

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

PM Modi emphasized the strong foundation of India-UK relations, rooted in shared democratic values, freedom, and the rule of law. He highlighted the importance of this partnership in navigating the uncertainties of the current global landscape. As the world grapples with instability, he noted, the growing collaboration between India and the UK serves as a stabilizing force, fostering economic progress and global security.

The discussions also delved into pressing international issues, including the Indo-Pacific region, developments in West Asia, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

UK Prime Minister Applauds India’s Vision

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who arrived in Mumbai for a two-day official visit, echoed the sentiment of building a modern and forward-looking partnership. Speaking about the significance of CETA, Starmer described it as a “breakthrough moment,” highlighting its role in reducing tariffs, opening markets, and driving growth for both nations.

Starmer also commended India’s remarkable economic growth and its ambitious vision for the future. He praised PM Modi’s leadership and acknowledged India’s goal of becoming the world’s third-largest economy by 2028. “Your vision of ‘Viksit Bharat,’ aiming to make India a fully developed country by 2047, is inspiring. Everything I’ve witnessed during my visit reaffirms that you are on the right path to achieve this,” he remarked.

The meeting between the two leaders signifies a deepening bond between India and the UK, built on mutual respect and shared goals. As both nations work together to address global challenges and unlock economic opportunities, this partnership is set to pave the way for a brighter and more prosperous future.

This historic collaboration, marked by agreements like CETA and ongoing economic dialogue, reflects a commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and progress that benefits both nations and the global community.
