Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday underlined the need for evolving a common vision between the Centre and states to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047 and asked states to take financially prudent decisions so as not to burden future generations.
Addressing the 8th Governing Council meeting of the Niti Aayog, PM Modi said India is at the take-off stage and the whole world is focused on the country.
“It is time states raise themselves to global standards and grab the global opportunity,” said Niti Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam, briefing the media on deliberations and the PM’s address.
According to Niti Aayog, Modi stressed that the Centre, states and UTs work as Team India and fulfil the dreams and aspirations of people for a Viksit Bharat by 2047, while outlining challenges related to the unpredictable global environment, changing geopolitical scenario, regional imbalances and income disparity.
Deliberations at the governing council meeting, which lasted for over seven hours, were held around eight themes, including Viksit Bharat, ease of doing business, health, skills development and infrastructure creation.
“Niti Aayog can play a critical role in helping states to develop their strategies for the next 25 years and align them with the National Development Agenda so the country can take a quantum leap towards achieving its vision for Amrit Kaal,” an Aayog statement quoted the PM as saying.
Speaking on the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline, PM urged states to take financially prudent decisions so as to become fiscally strong and capable of delivering programmes that meet the dreams of citizens.
The PM also urged states to proactively use the Gati Shakti Portal not only for infrastructure and logistics but also for local area development and the creation of social infrastructure.
Talking about India’s G20 presidency and its meetings being held all over the country, PM Modi said that while G20 has brought glory to India on the world stage, it has provided states an opportunity for global exposure.
