According to the information provided, on June 5, 2024, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in India set a new world record for the highest number of transactions in a single trading day. NSE CEO Ashish Chauhan stated that the exchange handled 1.971 billion orders and 280.55 million trades in a 6 hour and 15 minute trading session that day.

The Indian stock market saw a significant jump on Wednesday, with the Nifty 50 index closing 3.4% higher at 22,620.35 points. This marked the market's best one-day gain in over three years. The strong performance was attributed to key political allies pledging their support to form a new government following a narrow election victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The Nifty's 3.4% surge on Wednesday was its best percentage gain since the Union Budget announcements in February 2021, which drove the market up nearly 5% at the time. PM Modi is expected to be sworn in for a rare third term on June 8, after the Telugu Desam Party and Janata Dal (United) pledged their continued support.

In contrast, the benchmark indexes had closed nearly 6% lower on the previous trading day, Tuesday, recording their worst session since March 2020. However, on Wednesday, heavyweight bank stocks surged 4.5% and the financial services index jumped 4.2%, recovering from the nearly 8% drop seen on Tuesday.

The Nifty Volatility Index, a gauge of domestic market volatility, fell to its lowest level since May 27, indicating reduced market turbulence. Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) had sold a record Rs 12,436 crore worth of Indian shares on Tuesday, according to provisional data from the NSE.
