This corridor is a celebration of the liberation of Baba Vishwanath temple. Kashi is the city of liberation. People are drawn here in the desire of liberation. This Mukti Kami Chetna of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned the 1000 years old glory of Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

The Kashi Vishwanath Corridor has got rid of the one who was suffering from the demolition of Kashi Vishwanath temple for a thousand years. Till the eleventh century, the appearance of this temple was the same as it is built today. Kashi Vishwanath was not just a temple but a complex of temples. There were corridor-shaped rooms around the temple complex, where Sanskrit, tantra and spirituality were taught. Students used to stay here and take education of religion and philosophy. In the seventeenth century, Aurangzeb ordered the destruction of this temple complex because his rebel brother Dara Shikoh studied Sanskrit here. Dara Shikoh rebelled against Aurangzeb and Islam. Therefore Aurangzeb issued a decree to demolish the temple on 18 April 1669. It was recorded in this farman written in Persian that “there foolish pundits teach evil knowledge from junk books.”

Aurangzeb got the temple demolished and a mosque was also built. Which was later called Gyanvapi Mosque. Gyanvapi means well of knowledge. After that the temple continued to deteriorate in several phases with the help of Kashivasi, Holkar and Scindia chieftains. But that splendor of hers did not return. After the departure of Aurangzeb, the struggle to rebuild the temple continued. From 1752 to 1780, Maratha Sardar Datta ji Scindia and Malharrao Holkar made efforts for the liberation of the temple. But between 1777 and 80, Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore got success. Ahilyabai got the temple built but she could not return it to its old glory and glory. In 1836, Maharaja Ranjit Singh got its summit decorated with gold. But Lord Shankar continued to breathe in the ‘thermos flask’ of the temples. Other temples in the complex were occupied by priests and gradually the temple complex turned into a settlement whose houses were imprisoned by ancient temples. By constructing the corridor, the Prime Minister expanded the dreams of Ahilya Bai. The ancient temples of the complex, which were stolen and imprisoned in the houses, were freed.
