UIDAI has launched a new Aadhaar app for Android and iOS, allowing users to securely store and share Aadhaar cards digitally. Complementing mAadhaar, it enables paperless identity management, supports up to five profiles, and includes biometric protection. With easy setup, real-time updates, and QR-based sharing, the app enhances digital convenience and promotes paperless, secure governance.
In a move designed to make identity management more convenient and eco-friendly, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) introduced a new Aadhaar app on November 9. The app, now available for both Android and iOS devices, allows users to store and share their Aadhaar cards digitally, offering a faster, paperless way to access and verify identity details.
While the new release works in tandem with the existing mAadhaar app, it focuses primarily on secure storage and sharing rather than all-in-one functionality. Users can download their Aadhaar card, verify information, and even request physical cards through mAadhaar, while the new app simplifies digital storage and secure sharing for everyday use.
A Simpler, Safer Way to Manage Aadhaar
The new app’s interface prioritizes ease of use and security, providing a straightforward two-step process to access Aadhaar details. It enhances the way Indian citizens can carry, display, and share their Aadhaar identity without relying on physical copies.
Unlike traditional paper documents or PDF versions, this app offers a dedicated, encrypted environment for your Aadhaar data — improving portability and reducing the need to handle physical cards. Moreover, the app supports up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single mobile number, allowing families to conveniently store multiple cards on one device.
Key Features of the New Aadhaar App
Secure Digital Storage: Keep Aadhaar cards safe within the app, reducing dependency on paper copies.
Easy Sharing: Share Aadhaar details through verifiable QR codes, ensuring quick and authenticated access for institutions or service providers.
Real-Time Updates: The app reflects the latest updates to your Aadhaar profile automatically, keeping your information current.
Biometric Protection: Activate a biometric lock to prevent unauthorized access. You control when and how your Aadhaar data is unlocked.
Multiple Profiles: Add up to four additional Aadhaar cards, ideal for family members linked to the same mobile number.
This digital tool complements platforms like DigiLocker and the PDF Aadhaar, aligning with India’s broader vision for secure, paperless governance.
Getting Started: Setting Up the New Aadhaar App
To start using UIDAI’s latest offering, follow these simple steps:
Install the Aadhaar app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Choose your preferred language and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
Verify your identity by sending an SMS from your registered mobile number.
Authenticate using face verification, enter the OTP, and set a six-digit password for secure access.
Once complete, your digital Aadhaar card will appear in the app. You can then mask sensitive details, enable a biometric lock, or share credentials directly.
The setup process can be repeated for up to five profiles, enabling seamless management of multiple Aadhaar cards within one device.
A Step Toward a Paperless Future
The launch of this app marks another step by UIDAI to strengthen digital identity management in India. By reducing reliance on physical Aadhaar copies and integrating enhanced security features, the new app offers citizens a smarter, safer, and more eco-friendly way to handle their identity data.
With its focus on security, simplicity, and accessibility, UIDAI’s new Aadhaar app promises to redefine how Indians use and share one of the country’s most important digital identity tools.
