In a first, Procter & Gamble names Indian as global COO

CHENNAI/MUMBAI: Shailesh Jejurikar has become the first Indian to be appointed global COO of the consumer products MNC Procter & Gamble (P&G). The Mumbai born 54-year-old Jejurikar is an alumni of the Hyderabad Public School and counts among his classmates another famous global CEO — Satya Nadella of Microsoft.

Jejurikar is not the only corner-room occupant in his family. Older brother Rajesh is executive director of Mahindra & Mahindra and also has a background in FMCG. “It is a matter of pride for all of us to see Indians rise to the top rungs of global organisations,” said Rajesh Jejurika.

Shailesh Jejurikar is among the handful of India-born global business leaders without an overseas degree. He did an MBA from IIM Lucknow in 1989, soon after which he joined P&G India as an assistant brand manager (personal healthcare).
