I wear 140 crore Indians' trust as protective shield, lies can't breach it:PM Modi hits back at Oppn

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that no allegations could harm him as he wore the 'shield of love and support of 140 crore Indians'. Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President's address in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, he lashed out at the Congress and the 10-year UPA government.

"Some people are living for themselves and their family but Modi is a member of 25 crore families of India. The love and blessings of 140 crore countrymen is my biggest shield. I am wearing the protective shield of their belief. No attack can pierce the shield," the PM said in his 85-minute reply, a day after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi alleged that his government had bent rules to benefit businessman Gautam Adani.

Modi said his government's achievements and flagship programmes touched the lives of all Indians and the electorate would not buy allegations levelled by the Opposition. With chants of "Modi Modi" by BJP MPs, the PM said 9 crore people who got free gas connection, 11 crore women who got toilets and 8 crore who got tap water supply would not buy into the 'rhetoric' of the Congress. "The decade from 2004 to 2014 will be called a decade of scams. It was a lost decade. But 2030 would be known as India's decade in the entire world," he claimed.

Congress 'converted every opportunity into a crisis', he alleged. "From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, India bore the brunt of numerous terrorist strikes during 2004-2014... Whenever there was an opportunity, they converted it into a crisis. When there was an era of information technology, they were caught in 2G scam. When civil nuclear deal was being signed, they were caught in cash-for-votes scam. When it was time to showcase sporting talent of the country in 2010 Commonwealth Games, they embarrassed the country with another scam," he alleged. Hinting that 'corruption' during UPA governance had brought Opposition under the scanner of central investigative agencies, he taunted the Opposition over its 'rift.'

"The Enforcement Directorate did what voters could not - ED has brought all Opposition parties together on one platform," he said. Over the last nine years, instead of constructive criticism, 'compulsive critics' have taken over. "There are those who feel abusing Modi will solve their problems," he said..
