In a heartfelt tribute to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's efforts to strengthen cultural connections between India and China, Chinese Consul General Xu Wei emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations. Wei shared his thoughts at a special event held at Visva-Bharati in Santiniketan, marking the conclusion of the centenary celebrations of Tagore's historic visit to China in 1924.

"Tagore had advocated improving cultural ties between the two countries, and had visited China 100 years ago. Relations between our two countries are very good," Wei remarked during the inaugural session of the two-day programme titled 'Marking the end of the centenary celebration of Rabindranath Tagore's visit to China in 1924.'

The consul general also highlighted the enduring significance of the 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and China. He expressed optimism about the future, stating, "There is every possibility, potential and great scope in further improving our bilateral ties and we are proceeding along that path." The event was organized by 'Cheena Bhavan,' the Department of Chinese Studies and Research at Visva-Bharati University.

Vice Chancellor Probir Kumar Ghosh, while welcoming the Chinese envoy, celebrated Tagore's vision of fostering cross-cultural exchanges in art and culture. He underscored the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections between Indian and Chinese universities, reinforcing the foundational ideals of Visva-Bharati.

The conference brought together 24 scholars, with 12 each from India and China, reflecting a commitment to academic collaboration and cultural dialogue. Established in 1937 by Rabindranath Tagore himself, 'Cheena Bhavan' has served as a vital hub for India-China cultural studies. Over the decades, it has facilitated numerous exchanges among academics, students, and researchers, furthering Tagore's dream of closer ties between the two nations.

As the centenary celebrations drew to a close, the event served as a poignant reminder of the Nobel laureate's enduring legacy in promoting harmony and understanding across borders.
