China’s COVID-19 vaccinations have exceeded 2 billion doses, and more than 889 million people across the country have been fully vaccinated, according to the latest press briefing from the National Health Commission.
It only took more than 2 months for China to reach the milestone from 1 billion doses of vaccinations in June to 2 billion doses. China aims to achieve herd immunity by the end of 2021 with 80% fully vaccinated from the 1.4 billion population.
In Guangdong province, 79 million people have been fully vaccinated. Based on the province’s 126 million residents, the population’s COVID-19 vaccine coverage rate is 63.32%, whilst Beijing’s vaccine coverage rate has reached 94.93%.
“The COVID-19 rebound in China has been effectively controlled”, said Mi Feng, spokesman of the National Health Commission. As of 26 August, 27 out of 31 provinces in China had been classified as Covid-19 low-risk regions. The country also intends to lift travel restrictions and welcome inter-provincial travel for upcoming holidays, such as Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.
